Spa Returns

Swimming Pool FeaturesIn an effort to reduce cost many pool builders are choosing to use the standard SP1022 wall fittings for spa returns. What is a SP1022? It is simply the through wall flange that accepts the "eyeball" fitting so popular on pool plumbing returns. Unfortunately, this fitting, while well suited to return water to the pool, is simply not very therapeutic by design. A concrete spa with these fittings equates to nothing more than sitting in a bucket of hot-water with a water hose in the way of therapy. These fittings cost the builder around $2.00 apiece.

Better pool builders include the Waterway Storm Jets that not only offer a better therapeutic experience, but the additional option of custom jets. These jets offer the distinct advantage of being able to select a variety of jet heads, from slow soft pulsating to rapid forceful rotating jets. If your builder doesn't include true therapy jets, you might be better off skipping the spa all together or opting for a stand alone acrylic box spa. Waterway Jets can add up to a $100.00 per jet if done correctly. This additional cost is due to jets themselves, associated plumbing and potential upsizing of the pool pump. Better pool builders realize the dramatic difference in spa performance and make the jets a standard offering.
